Review Tuesday: Wurstküche

Wurstküche: German for Sausage Kitchen.

This place offers the best of the sausage world, with everything from vegan options to rattlesnake. Located in an old warehouse, in downtown L.A. this cafeteria style joint offers an extensive sausage collection as well as 24 imported beers on tap. My friends and I find ourselves making the trek downtown just to have their Belgian Truffle Fries.

The atmosphere is super chill with long kraft paper covered cafateria tables. This is a big lunch hour spot for the biz people downtown, and since the bar stays open until 2 a.m. it also attracts a more upbeat crowd as the night arrives and the DJ starts spinning.

Next time you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping by for a beer and a brat!
Good News: New location in Venice!

Music Monday--The Civil Wars

The Civil Wars is an amazing duo emerging onto the scene. Their chance meeting in an impromptu song writing workshop connected John Paul and Joy Williams like they never expected. Although both are married, their connection is undeniable. They have said that they think it's flattering fans think they are married to each-other, but  if they were married, they probably would not be able to sing the gut wrenching , heart break, honest songs they are known for now.Their first single, Poison and Wine, does just that. It was written about the good, the bad, and the ugly side of a marriage. The things you would want to say but know you never will. They also have songs to the future love of your life, deep south knee slapping sounds and acoustic covers of the greats, such as I Want You Back by The Jackson 5.

I was able to see them live at The Wilton Theater months ago, and I was deeply moved and inspired. They travel with no backup band, instead only their voices and a few guitars. Although this may seem too minimal for a two hour show, I assure you the power behind each of their voices projects into your soul.

The last 40 seconds of this video is too much! (in a good way)

Fashion Friday-- Sunshine Shoes

I haven't been to Old Navy in probably 10 years, not because of anything in particular, we just have so many other shopping options here in SoCal. Recently I have been hearing people comment about their inexpensive finds, so I thought I better go check it out. Sure enough, I found these super cute flats! I call them my sunshine shoes. They look pretty luxurious considering they were only $22 and some change!

Design Thursday--Rus Anson and the Circus

Rus Anson is a noted Fine Art Fashion photographer from Barcelona, currently living in San Francisco. Her photos are surreal, whimsical and inspiring. This cirucs collection is part of her fantasy theme, and trust me, this showcase is only scratching the surface of her vast talent.

Review Tuesday--The Vow

On Friday I went to see The Vow. Just as all the other girls out there I was counting down the days until I could see Channing Tatum's handsome face, plus I am a sucker for a sappy love story. I thought the movie was great, it ended a little too abruptly for my liking, but nonetheless, I really enjoyed the film. There was one scene in particular that stood out to me the most. At the beginning of the film the "meet cute" was introduced where Paige and Leo locked eyes at the DMV and both turned back to take a second glance. Paige continued walking to her car and just as she was about to drive away, Leo came to ask her out. I really loved this scene because if Leo wouldn't have had the courage to approach her; their entire lives would not have been the same. This brings me back to my previous post about how one slight decision can affect your whole life. It happens every day, connections are made and then often left to pass us by. So there are lessons in life...go with your gut, listen to your heart and don't be afraid to take a chance, it may just lead you to that once in a lifetime love.

Music Monday--The Pretty Reckless

You may know her as Jenny from Gossip Girl or even sweet little Cindy Lou Who from The Grinch...but Taylor Momsen probably fits in best with her band, The Pretty Reckless. I was really surprised  to hear the tone of her voice and equally taken back by most of the songs on her latest album. She is a bit of a wild one, and often times a complete train wreck, but just as you can't take your eyes away....I'm still listening.

Fashion Friday-- The Rogue and the Wolf

I have recently been on a huge jewelry kick. As we all know Etsy has a ton of really unique items. I could look through pages for hours! I stumbled upon  Rogue and the Wolf and fell in love with their collection. The bunny ears and shark fin are right up my alley!

Wise Up Wednesday--TBWA/Chiat/Day Advertising

When I was in college I was privileged to tour the unique offices of TBWA/Chiat/Day Advertising. They are the advertising masterminds behind Apple Inc, as well as many other reputable companies. They are known for "disruptive" advertising, which automatically demands respect and forces creativity. This definition is obvious in the construction of their office located in Playa Del Rey.

These words, located at the top of the bright yellow building, are the first to greet potential new clients and visitors:

"Ad Agency , 2001. A narchists, schmoozers, dictators, grandstanders, purists, malcontents, philosophers, lollygaggers, visionaries, cheerleaders, accountants in gray and yellow structure. On loan from The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles."

Employees are encouraged to work when, and only when their creative juices are flowing. The office is open 24 hours a day.

I find it extremely admirable to find a company with such a strong emphasis and priority on creativity.

Review Tuesday--L'Oreal EverSleek Shampoo

Remember back in the day when girls would use washing their hair as an excuse not to go out with a guy...well, I'm pretty sure I am guilty of that very thing! I must admit I would rather have thick wavy hair than the opposite, but let me tell you it is a chore sometimes!

I have tried a ton of different shampoos, everything from Kerstase to Pantene. I have found this L'Oreal Smooth and Sleek to be my favorite so far. My hair will start to wave up with the slightest bit of moisture, so since I live right on the water, I needed to find a solution. This shampoo and conditioner has done the trick. I have super thick and wavy hair, so I know if this can manage my doo, it must be good! Added bonus: It's sulfate free!

Music Monday--Angus and Julia Stone

When I was a teenager I would sing Whitney Houston, in what I thought was the best voice, in my room while gazing out the windows at who knows what! Little did I know, one day my mom would be gardening right beneath my room window! All she said was, "Lindsey I can hear you"....I was so embarrassed!
RIP Whitney

On a lighter note...

I have been listening to this band non stop for a week....

Angus and Julia Stone--A Brother/Sister duo from Australia.
(Don't let that scruff fool you, Angus is pretty smokin' under all of that hair!)

Fashion Friday--The Turban Trend

Spring is around the corner and I was very happy to see the turban style scarf hit the runways of Fashion Week. It is the perfect accessory to bring life to any outfit or bad hair day. Unlike other outrageous runway looks, this is actually very easy to pull off. Simply roll, twist and tie!

A Dinglehopper!

Last summer while working in Italy I flipped through thousands of  magazine pages searching for design, color, and type inspiration. I loved this image, featured in marie claire maison , and months later still think about these Fork and Knife curtains!

Survey Says?

I have found the perfect tanning solution! Although I live in sunny California, we all know laying in the sun is not good for the skin. Over the years I have tried many different tanning lotions and sprays. Most were nothing to write home about. Last summer I discovered South Seas Tahitian Tan Mist. It is by far the best I have tried. All you do is spray it on, let dry for a minute and then you are good to go! The color gets slightly darker over a few hours, no streaking and smells good too!

Music Monday!

Happy Monday, and might I add....Music Monday! I seem to be a pro at winning concert tickets on the radio, maybe it's just because of the massive amount of time I spend in my car driving, or perhaps I have a special speed dial down, but I have managed to win a few times! This summer I won Foo Fighter tickets, and it ended up being one of the best concerts I have ever been to. It's crazy after all of these years they still play with the same energy they had when they were young, it really shows their dedication and passion for what they do. It's amazing how Dave Grohl has managed to step out from behind the drum set after the death of Kurt Cobain to make a name for himself. It makes you wonder where he would be today if Kurt was still alive. I was just talking with friends about how bad situations in your life can lead to something much greater. I am intrigued by how small decisions can affect the rest of your life; the people who enter into it, the adventures you have or the people or places you leave behind. Pressing snooze can provide 10 extra minutes to prevent a car accident. A pink slip at work can turn into the motivation to start your own business or simply a broken heart reflected into lyrics of a #1 song. Sometimes the bad is bad, but eventually the light always shines through...

A Weekend Full of Sunshine

It is the beginning of a new month, and I must say it is off to a good start. I took advantage of this lovely SoCal "winter" weather and soaked up some rays. After a quick stop for coffee I drove up PCH a few miles to Crystal Cove, and let me tell you..there is no better way to start your day. I feel so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. My daily commute to L.A. during the week is a little brutal at times, but every night when I drive across the bridge to Balboa Island I feel like I am on vacation. My sunset strolls and sea lion wake up calls make it worth the trek.
